Our vision is to have an iconic heritage shophouse at the center of each community. The building represents the grassroots history of that neighborhood, and the spaces inside are used for the purposes of connecting and enhancing the lives of the community around it.
Heritage conservation in Hong Kong is largely carried out by the government and to some extent, developers. Focus is mostly limited to government owned, graded buildings or large scale projects. Our focus is on privately owned shophouses, or tonglau’s, which are an important part of Hong Kong’s grassroots history, but are largely unprotected.
Eventually, the Lion Rock Heritage Foundation aims to have a portfolio of heritage assets across the city, under its stewardship. More importantly, with the trust and engagement of the communities we touch, we hope to make social, cultural and environmental impact on the lives of our city’s citizens and the generations that follow.
